Preventing Evictions:

This training will provide an overview of the housing court proceedings that can lead to evictions including non-payment and holdover cases. Attendees will be able to walk a tenant through the steps of a NYC eviction case and will be able to identify the legal notices that tenants receive and how to help tenants respond appropriately to these notices in order to prevent evictions.

Our presenter, Megan K. O’Byrne, is a staff attorney with The Legal Aid Society’s Tenant Rights Coalition in the Bronx where she works with tenant associations to enforce tenant rights. She has been a housing attorney for over four years and has represented tenants in all five boroughs as well as in city and town courts in Orange and Sullivan counties. She began her career in the litigation department of the law firm Bracewell LLP. She graduated from American University in Washington DC in 2009 and is licensed in New York and California.

**The Bronx Health and Housing Consortium is working in conjunction with Legal Aid Society's Bronx Neighborhood Office to provide this training for health, housing, and social service providers. This is the third of several trainings that will be offered this year based on Consortium members' needs and interests.
